فى هذا البحث الفريد فى بابه أجاد الدكتور السيد الدبيكى فى الإمساك بجوانب موضوعه من كافة النواحى فقد تحدث عن تجليات الخرافة والشعوذة فى الحياة اليومية للناس فى ذلك الزمان ؛ وتكلم عن علاقات المصريين بجيرانهم وأقاربهم وأصدقائهم ، فضلاً عن نظرتهم إلى الغرباء . وفى خلال ذلك كله حدثنا عن الممارسات التى قام بها المصريون والتى حكمت الخرافة والشعوذة بعضها ، وبيَّن كيف أن الناس كانوا يخلطون بين مفاهيمهم الدينية الشعبية من ناحية، وبين الخرافة والشعوذة من ناحية أخرى. ولم يترك الدكتور السيد الدبيكى أى تفاصيل تتعلق بموضوعه فى هذه الناحية. ثم بحث مظاهر الشعوذة والخرافة فى كل الجوانب التى شهدها المجتمع المصرى عصر سلاطين المماليك، وكيف تأثر السلاطين والأمراء ببعض النواحى التى كانت الخرافة والشعوذة تترك بصماتها عليها؛ مثل استطلاع المستقبل والتنبؤ بالغيب مبينًا كيف أن فريقًا من الناس احترفوا الدجل والشعوذة بضاعتهم التى يروجونها عند الطبقة الحاكمة ومن يلوذ بها.
