ما بين تضاريس «سري» و «سري للغاية» وتحفظات «بدون حق النشر» التي تصدرت مئات الوثائق والملفات في أرشيفات العاصمة الروسية، أمتدت مسيرة أعوام من البحث والتنقيب عن مدى صحة ما قيل ويقال حول أن «علاقات القاهرة وموسكو كانت ولا تزال علاقات اضطرار وليست علاقات القاهرة وموسكو كانت ولا تزال علاقات اضطرار وليست علاقات اختيار». ومن واقع أن للتاريخ «عيونًا وآذانًا».واستنادًا الى معايشة وقريبة زمانًا ومكانًا، امتدت لمايزيد على نصف القرن، يأتي هذا الكتاب «شهادات» و «وثائق» تدحض وتفند ماتناثر، ويتناثر على طريق العلاقات المصرية والروسية من «أشواك» التفسيرات والأقاويل، ومنها ما يتعلق بأخطر مراحل التاريخ المصري المعاصر.
في هذا الكتاب رصد للبدايات، واستعراض للحكايات، وتسجيل لـ «محاضر جلسات» طالما حددت ملامح الكثير من جوانب العلاقات الثنائية والدولية، ومنها ما يميط اللثام، ليس فقط عن الكثير من «تعرجات الصداقة المصرية الروسية، بل أيضا عن مكنون مواقف شخصية أسفرت في حينها عن قرارات مصيرية حددت مسارات ناصر مع الزعيم السوفيتي خرشوف، وكذلك مع رفيق العمر عبد الحكيم عامر، فضلًا عن فك الارتباط بين المؤسسة العسكرية والدولة المدنية في أعقاب «نكسة 1976»، وما تلا ذلك عقب رحيله من أحداث شملت ضمنًا قرارات الرئيس السادات حول «طرد الخبراء السوفييت» وإفشاء أحد أهم أسرار حرب أكتوبر في رسالة شخصية إلى هنري كيسنجر، سرعان ما بُلغت تفاصيلها إلى جولدا مائير في تل أبيب، ولم يكن قد مضى على بدء المعارك أقل من 24 ساعة؛ مما كان إعلانًا عن «تحولات جذرية» في تاريخ علاقات مصر مع المنطقة والعالم.
