رأيت جدات ملتفات بالحجاب من الرأس إلى أخمص القدمين، وعمَّالاً بثياب العمل الزرقاء، ومحاربين قدامى من المصابين في الحرب على كراسيهم المتحركة، والأطفال على أكتاف الآباء، شاهدت كيف كانت عيونهم تتجه نحو السماء وأفواههم مستعدة لترديد أول هتاف.
وفي أقل من ساعة، اتحدت تلك المجموعات لتشكِّل سلسلة بشرية واحدة، بجوارنا كان هناك رجلان عجوزان أخذا يهتفان: "أعيدوا إلينا أصواتنا!"، وقد أمسكا بأيدي بعضهما البعض، قال أحدهما أنه لم يغادر منزله منذ عام وأضاف: "منذ سنوات وأنا أحلم بهذا اليوم! كنت أغمض عيني وأبكي أحياناً وأنا أتخيَّل هذه اللحظة، وها هي الآن تتجلى أمام ناظري، الآن لو مت، فسأموت بسلام". - من الكتاب
