تقع أحداث هذه القصة المترجمة الدكتور جيكل والسيد هايد في لندن في عامي 1885 و1886. وفي ذلك الوقت كانت لندن أكبر مدينة في العالم، ومركز الصناعة، بالإضافة إلى كونها ميناء ضخماً.
في عام 1885، لم تكن هناك سيارات في شوارع لندن، بل عوضاً عن ذلك كانت العربات الخفيفة التي يجرها حصان واحد، أو العربات التي تجرها الخيول، أما عربات الأجرة فكانت عبارة عن عربات تجرها الخيول.
لم يكن هناك هواتف في ذلك الوقت، وكان الناس يرسلون الأخبار عن طريق الرسائل، وكانت شوارع لندن تضاء في الليل بواسطة قناديل الغاز، حيث لم تكن هناك أنوار كهربائية حتى بداية القرن العشرين.
