ربما لا توجد في تاريخ العرب شخصية ظلت تثير جدلا رهيبا وغير مسبوق بالقدر الذي أثارته شخصية الكولونيل توماس إدوارد لورانس، الذي أطلق عليه- تاريخيا- اسم (لورانس العرب).. فهذا الرجل ظل محلا لثقة العرب، وبطلا في نظرهم ريدحاً من الزمن، قاد ثورتهم العربية للتحرر من الأتراك إيماناً منه بوحدة الأمة العربية وحريتها والسؤال: هل حقاً كان الرجل كذلك؟
الحقيقة أن العرب استيقظوا ذات يوم، وبعد سنوات طويلة، ليكتشفوا أن لورانس هو أحد أكبر الخونة في تاريخهم، وأنه كان عميلا للاستعمار والصهيونية، زرعه الإنجليز بين ظهرانيهم، لكي يحرضهم ويدفعهم ويقودهم لإسقاط الدولة العثمانية، حتى يحل هذا الاستعمار محلها، فكانت بداية توزيع الكعكة بين إنجلترا وفرنسا وفق اتفاقية (سايكس بيكو)، وتمهيد الطريق أمام الصهاينة لاغتصاب فلسطين!!
وكانت صدمة العرب كبيرة عندما اعترف بخداعه لهم بتودده إليهم، وارتدائه زيهم، كاشفاً عن حقده وكراهيته للعرب والمسلمين وتاريخهم، محاولاً التقليل من شأنهم، ورميهم بالجهل والتخلف، مؤكدا أن هدفه الحقيقي كان هو تفتيت الوحدة الإسلامية ودحر الإمبراطورية العثمانية وتدميرها.
وهذا الكتاب يروي القصة الكاملة للكولونيل الجاسوس لورانس العرب، وكيف تمكن بخبث الأبالسة من خداع العرب، الذين أحاطوه بالحب، ووثقوا فيه، وكيف افتضح أمره، وكيف أن هذا الرجل الذي دأب المؤرخون على تصويره على أنه محب للعرب ونموذج للبريطاني العربي، كان في حقيقة الأمر صهيونيا متعصبا يكره العرب، ويقاتل لزرع دولة يهودية بينهم.
