أما الفصل الثاني فهو عن الحكم الروماني لمصر، وتناول فيه الباحث مدرسة الإسكندرية اللاهوتية، وظهور حركة الرهبنة وتطورها، والأنشطة التبشيرية للأقباط، وكنيسة الإسكندرية الأرثوذكسية والانشقاق وقانون الإيمان القبطي.
والكتاب بذلك يقدم-بتركيز شديد-صورة دقيقة لسيرة القديسين بولس ومرقس، ودور الكنيسة القبطية، وظهور حركة الرهبنة في مصر، وهي المنحة التي قدمها أقباط مصر للعالم المسيحي، ولم يكن لها وجود خارج مصر.
