يتمنى ويحلم الكثيرون بهذه العودة الزمنية للماضي، ولا يملك أي منا وسيلة تحقق مبتغاه.. ولكن الأمر يختلف معي، فأنا القرينة، من تملك حجر الزمن.
قلادة أثرية، بها زمردة خضراء، تنتقل من جيل إلى آخر. يعلم جميع أفراد عائلتي قصتها، ولا تصدق عقولهم أسطورتها، التي تخبر عن زمن بعيد، كانت جدتي جولينار فيه، تعيش في تعاسة، تقتل روحها آلام الضمير، لذنب مهيب اقترفته في ماضيها. تمنت وسعت كثيرًا، لتصل إلى حل يخفف عنها عذاب الضمير القاتل، حتى وجدته لدى ساحر هندي، قدم لها زمردة خضراء، أخبرها أنها حجر الزمن، وأن بإمكانها عند استخدامه العودة للماضي لمرة واحدة فقط، لتصحح خطأها ويشفي ضميرها. كما أخبرها أن حجر الزمن سوف يفقد قدرته بعد ذلك، ليعود له سحره من جديد، عند مولد القرينة.. فتاة من نسلها، تشبهها تمامًا في الشكل والدم، لتستخدمه إذا أرادت لمرة واحدة فقط.
ومنذ ما يقرب من خمس سنوات، يعلم الكبار بعائلتي أنني أنا القرينة. تأكد للجميع هذا، عندما أهدتني جدتي، الأميرة شفق نور، قلادة الزمرد الخضراء. توهجها وإشعاعها عندما لمستها يدي أكد لي وللجميع هذا. ومنذ ذلك الوقت، والجميع يلاحقونني بطلب وحيد.. أن أعود بالزمن، وأقوم بتنبيه الملك فاروق بمخططات ضباط الجيش، لينتبه لهم. ولكني لا أريد ضياع فرصتي الوحيدة، لإنقاذ عائلتي فقط. كما أني لا أثق أن تحذيري للملك فاروق سوف يحدث فرقًا.
في دراستي تاريخ عائلتي، وجدت العديد من الأخطاء الجسيمة، التي تراكمت مع مرور السنوات، وكانت نتيجتها ليس فقط ما حدث لعائلتي وفقدان الملك؛ ولكن كانت الأضرار لبلد وشعب بأكمله. لم يكن الملك فاروق هو بداية الانهيار، ولكن البداية، لهذه النهاية المؤسفة، قبل ذلك بكثير. كم تمنيت لو واصل أجدادي ما بدأه محمد علي باشا من نهضة، إذًا كنا لنصبح الآن كدولة مثل اليابان، في تقدمها واستقرارها ورقيها. لهذا، كان قراري هو العودة بالزمن لعصر جدي الخديوي إسماعيل.. هناك انطلقت البداية لهذه النهاية.
