هذا الكتاب من الموضوعات التي لم تصدر فيها من قبل دراسات كافية من قبل الباحثين في التاريخ البطلمي.
وقد قسمته المؤلفة إلى مرحلتين زمنيتين: المرحلة الأولى من عام 202ق.م.إلى عام 96ق.م.وفيه تحدثت عن العلاقات المصرية السورية عندما كانت كل من مصر وسوريا ومقدونيا تحت الحكم ثلاثة ملوك فتيان هم: بطليموس الرابع، وانتيوخس الثالث وفيليب الخامس. وعندما ضعفت دول البطالة في عهد بطليموس الرابع، ظهرت سوريا ومقدونيا ظهوراً لم يستمر طويلاً، ثم ما لبثت سوريا ومقدونيا بعد وفاة بطليموس الرابع أن أخذتا تعملان للاستيلاء على مملكة البطالة الواسعة تساعدهما الأوضاع الداخلية المتردية في مصر، وتعرضت المؤلفة لدور روما التي كانت على وشك الانتهاء من الحرب البونية الثانية وأرسلت بعثتها إلى الشرق عام 202ق.م.
أما المرحلة الثانية، وتمت من 96 ق.م.إلى 30ق.م.، فقد تناولت فيها المؤلفة نحو السيطرة الرومانية على مصر، وقسمتها إلى قسمين: فترة حكم بطليموس الزمار (الثاني عشر)، وفترة حكم كليوباترة السابعة (50-30ق.م) التي كانت صحوة حديث في الفترة الأخيرة من حكم البطالمة.
