كتاب "إسهامات الأقباط في الحضارة الإنسانية" يضم بالأساس نتاجاً لأوراق بحثية تم عرضها لأول مرة خلال مؤتمر "الحياة في مصر خلال العصر القبطي" الذي نظمته مكتبة الاسكندرية سبتمبر 2010، وضم 120 باحثاً من كافة أنحاء العالم. يلقي الكتاب الضوء على الحياة في تلك المرحلة، وكيف ورث الأقباط أجدادهم الفراعنة، وبرعوا في العديد من المجالات مثل الطب والتشريح والكيمياء والصيدلة والهندسة والفلك، وامتد هذا التميز خلال العصرين الروماني والعربي حتي وصل تأثيرهم إلى أوروبا. فعلى مدى مئات الأعوام كان المرجع الطبي الذي كتبه يوحنا النقاوي من أهم المراجع الطبية لدى العرب، كما أن الذى قام بتدريب ابن النفيس –أحد أشهر الأطباء في تاريخ الحضارة العربية- كان طبيباً قبطياً، ولن تعجب لو عرفت أن أول عمل علمي طبي مكتوب بالعربية كان لقبطي أيضا هو اهرون السكندري. لا يدعي هذا الكتاب أنه أتم دراسة الجوانب العملية والفكرية لتلك المساهمات –الضخمة ولكن المنسية- في الحضارة الإنسانية بعامة وفي تاريخ مصر والمنطقة بخاصة، ولكنه يسعى لأن يكون لبنة تساعد في إقامة بناء جديد للدراسات القبطية في مصر؛ بما يليق بإسهامات الأقباط في تاريخ مصر والعالم.
