هذا الكتاب ثمرة سعي دؤوب وجهود متضافرة بُذلت لإحياء ذكرى الراحل محمود كحيل، رسّام الكاريكاتير السياسي البارز عربياً وعالمياً، والاحتفال بأعماله التي أنتجها خلال مسيرته طوال 5 عقود، بين 1956 و2003.
ويضم الكتاب مجموعة مختارة من الأعمال صدرت بين 1980 و2000 وتوزعت على ستة أبواب، هي: لبنان، الصراع الفلسطيني الإسرائيلي والحرمان وشؤون دولية والعالم العربي وحرية الصحافة والتعبير. وتُشير إلى مواضيع اهتمام الإنساني النزعة.
ويقدّم هذا الكتاب محمود كحيل الفنان والمهني المحترف والرجل الخفر الذي يعمل بصمت بعيد عن الأضواء. بأقلام زملاء له عايشوه وأحبّوه، وجُمعت نبذة عن حياته وشخصيته من ألسنة محبّين وأصدقاء.
في أول الطريق، بدأ أن جمع الأعمال عملية شاقة، فبعضها كان ضمن إصدارات منسية أسيرة محفوظات يتآكلها الزمن، ناهيك عن ان قسم من الأعمال الأولى التهمته سنوات الحرب الأهلية الهمجية في لبنان، حين لم تكن الأرشفة تحظى بأي اعتبار. وتعكس الأعمال المبكرة التي استعيدت وأرشِفت، غنىً مدهشاً في الأسلوب، وتكشف موهبة فذّة في الإنتاج.
ثم بدأت تتقاطر أعمال محمود، خصوصاً من أرشيف ((الشرق الأوسط)) و((عرب نيوز)) ومجلات أخرى ومطبوعات عالمية مثل ((وول ستريت جورنال)) و((لوموند)) و((كورييه إنترناسيونال))، إضافة إلى لوحات عُثر عليها في زوايا منزله اللندني. والهدف من الكتاب إعادة إحياء اسم محمود كحيل للذين عرفوه وقدّروا أعماله، ولتقديمه إلى أجيال جديدة وتعريفها على تاريخها من خلال لوحات منحوتة بوسع المعرفة وعرق المخيلة ومهارة اليد.
