مؤلّف هذا الكتاب هو القاضي محمد حافظ صبري من كبار رجال القضاء المصري، ويُعد مؤلّفه الذي بين أيدينا (كتاب المقارنات والمقابلات) أحد أهم أمهات الكتب القانونية والمقارنة بين القوانين الغربية المستقاة من الشرائع اليهودية والمسيحية وبين الشريعة الإسلاميّة حيث يبحث أحكام المرافعات والمعاملات والحدود في شرع اليهود ونظائرها من الشريعة الإسلاميّة الغرّاء ومن القانون المصري والقوانين الوضعيّة الأخرى، ويتضمّن الكتاب دراسة تحليليّة معاصرة لمضامين الكتاب ومحتوياته.
يحتوي الكتاب على ثلاثة أجزاء، الجزء الأول، في المرافعات في الدعاوى الحقوقيّة والجنائيّة، الجزء الثاني: في أحكام المعاملات وهي أحكام العقود، الجزء الثالث: في أحكام العقوبات والحدود.
الجزء الأول يحتوي على عدّة مباحث، يتحدث بعضها عن "القضاء" وما يتعلّق به من إختصاصات القضاء والتنفيذ وشؤون القضاة ومخاصمتهم، وكذلك "جلسات القضاء" ويناقش محلاّت العقاد الجلسات وأيامها وساعات إنعقادها، والتكليف بالحضور، وما يتعلّق بالشهود وتحليفهم، وكذلك ما يتعلق "بالأحكام" وما يتعلّق بها من الأحكام الغيابيّة وفسخ الأحكام وإلغاها، ويتناول ما يتصل بفحص القضايا والمداولة، وسقوط الحق في الدعوى، وأيضاً "تنفيذ الأحكام" و"إقامة الحدود وتنفيذ العقوبات".
بينما يشتمل الجزء الثاني على مناقشات لقضايا "أهلية المتعاقدين" و"موضوع العقود" و"تفسيرها" و"الشروط" و"تأويلها" وكذلك "أنواع التعهدات والعقود" و"التضامن فيها"، وكذلك "القضاء التعهدات"، وكذلك "إثبات الديون"، "البيوع"، "والمواريث"، و"التبرعات المنجزة والوصايا"، و"النكاح"، وحقوق "الإنتفاع" و"الإرتفاق".
أما الجزء الثالث فإنه يختصّ بالجرائم والجنايات المستحقّة للعقاب، حيث يناقش أنواع الجنايات وعددها، والجنايات التي تقع من المرفوع عنهم التكليف، والتي تقع على المرفوع عنهم التكليف، وعذر الجاني، وكذلك في العقوبات وأنواعها، والجنايات المعاقب عليها بالغرامة.
