ها هو ذا المطرب منشورا, أردنا به النفع, وبذلنا فيه ما وسعنا من جهد, وما هو إلا ركن أقمناه, فإن سلم على الزمن فحمدا, وإن جد علية جديد فما أكثرنا له حمدا والمرء قد يصيب وقد يخطىء, والغرض أوسع من أن يحاط به, والهدف أبعد على الرامين, فلا من كلمة مع التوفيق, وإعذار على ما فات. ولى زميل نصبا معى وما قصر, وكان للزميل الدكتور حامد عبد المجيد, بعد جولاته الموفقة معنا فى تحقيق النص وتحريره وتوجيهه, جولة أخرى انفرد بها, وهى إعداده الفهرس الشامل للكتاب, وما هو بالجهد القليل. ثم ما أظننا بما عملنا إلا أنصفنا أبا الخطاب فيما هدف إليه, فقد ألف هذا الكتاب ليشيع بين الناس فيعرفوا لقومه ما عرف, ويؤمنوا معه أنهم مجودون محسنون, وأنهم جديرون بنظرة عادلة لا تغمطهم حقاً, ولا تسليم فضلا.
