هذا كتاب من تراث أمة, ضيعها الورثة واجتالتها الشياطين. فى فن عظيم -هو ملام العربية وقوامها- تتحيفه أهله وتنقصه المبطلون. لإمام جليل, لم تؤت مصنفاته حظها من النشر والدرس والتأمل.
وأبو على: هو الحسين بن أحمد بن عبد الغافر الفسوى. وهو فارسى الأب, ولكن أمه عربية, فهى سدوسية, من سدوس بن شيبان بن بكر بن وائل بن جديلة بن أسد ابن ربيعة الفرس بن نزاز بن معد بن عدنان.
وبين المولد والوفاة حياة فاحلة بالتحصيل والانتقال والدلاس والتصنيف.
فقد بلغت مصنفاته نحو الأربعين, قدر كبير منها كسائل أملاها فى البلدان التى نزل بها فنسبت إليها, مثل: الشيرازيات والحلبيات والبغداديات والبصريات والعسكريات. وقد أحصى هذه المصنفات ياقوت, واستقصاها دارسوه وناشرو كتبه.
وسلم من تآليف أبى على هذه, من عوادى الناس والأيام, عدد كاف فى الدلالة على علم الرجل.
وهذا الكتاب هو كتاب نحو ومعان. أداره أبو على على الشعر, والشعر ما عرفت: متعة الأديب, وذوق البلاغى, وحجة المفسر, سند الأصولى, ودليل الفقيه, وشاهد النحوي, وميزان العروضى, ووثيقة المؤرخ, وخارطة الجغرافى.
ثم هو من قبل ومن بعد: بوح العاشق, ونفثة المصدور, وحنين الغريب, وأنين الفاقد, وبهجة الواجد, ومرثية العزيز, وآهة الملتاع, وتجربة الحكيم.
وقد جاءنا هذا الكتاب فى عنوانات شتى, فهو:
كتاب الشعر, والكتاب الشعري وإيضاح الشعر, والإيضاح الشعري, وإعراب الشعر, وأبيات الإعراب, وشرح الأبيات, وشرح الأبيات المشكلة الإعراب, وشرح الأبيات المشكلة الإعراب من الشعر, وكتاب الشعر فى أبيات الإعراب المسوقة على كتاب الإيضاح.
والمراد أن هذا الكتاب يعرض للأبيات المشكلة الإعراب, وفق مسائل النحو والصرف التى عرض لها أبو على فى كتابه الإيضاح وتكملته, ومن بين هذه العنوانات اخترت للكتاب هذا الاسم: "كتاب الشعر".
