This second series of Meditations on the Qur’an is only in English, because it is directed to an English speaking audience, and the reason for this is the growing number of problems arising in the west and increase in misunderstanding of Islam because of prejudice and other problems that are having to be dealt with recently.
Islamic communities in the west, whether of Arab or non-Arab origin undoubtedly have difficulties in integration in western societies for many reasons which are worsened by the misunderstanding of Islam by the Europeans and their deep ingrained suspicion of Moslems in general that are still due to vestiges of the Crusading periods in the past.
Furthermore there are youths who are marginalized, of Arab Moslem origin and who are unoccupied and not integrated into western societies, mainly of Algerian, Moroccan, Libyan, and Tunisian origins.
There are easy prey to radicalized Islam who offers them money and future based on fundamentalism. These youths have very little clear ideas of what Islam really is, unfortunately.
Other than that there are the rising waves of poor Africans coming in boats to Europe hoping for a future, and who are illiterate, and destitute.
All these factors are going to create continuously increasing problems for Europe and the West, and will eventually lead to anti-Islamic reactions of violence.
Because of all these factors, I have written these mediations for English speaking western people to give them a clearer and less prejudiced ideas of Islam.
In English because they are based on the English translation of the Qur’an by Tarif Khalidi.
