وتحاول هذه السلسلة تناول الحقبة المملوكية في مصر والشام، مع إبراز سير وتراجم أهم المماليك من ذوي الخطر، وتجلية ما قاموا به من أدوار رائعة مضيئة يشرق بها التاريخ العربي والإسلامي. وعلى ذلك فإن هذه السلسلة تهدف إلى إبراز تاريخ العرب والمسلمين في القرن الثالث عشر الميلادي في مصر والشام. وتكاد تقتصر تلك الفترة بوجه عام على أهم حدثين كبيرين في التاريخ الإسلامي، بل في التاريخ الإنساني كله.
الحدث الأول، وهو الأخطر، الحملات الصليبية، والحدث الثاني الذي يعد علامة من علامات الحقبة المملوكية هو بروز القوة المغولية وانطلاقها من أقاصي آسيا واندفاعها غربًا كالإعصار المدمر واجتياحها لكل ما تجده أمامها، إلى أن أوقفها بطل هذا الكتاب، ثم أجهز عليها المماليك من بعده وطردوها من العالم العربي كله.
ومما لا شك فيه أن التاريخ أهمل المماليك ولم يعط الفترة المملوكية هذه حقها من البحث والتمحيص، وفي ذلك ظلم للماليك برغم أعمالهم المضيئة الباهرة، وأياديهم الكريمة المبهرة، وإنجازاتهم الخارقة الجبارة، وسيرتهم العطرة السيارة، التي نتابع قبس منها في صفحات هذه السلسلة.
