في كتابه هذا يسجل الأستاذ إبراهيم الزيبق سيرة أستاذه الشيخ "شعيب الأرنؤوط" المولود عام 1928. وفيها يتحدث عن رحلته في طلب العلم وجهوده في تحقيق التراث.
يقول المؤلف عن الشيخ شعيب أنه كان محباً للحوار والنقد وهو في ذلك "يأتسي بأئمة الجرح والتعديل في توخيهم الدقة والتمحيص، والصدق والعدل فيما يصدرون عنه من آراء، ويرى الإختلاف بين العلماء أمرأً فطرياً، جبل الناس عليه، فإنهم لم يزل يخالف بعضهم بعضاً كما قال الإمام أحمد، هذا الإختلاف البعيد عن الهول... هو الذي يثري حياتنا العلمية..."
وفي الكتاب يبدأ المؤلف بترجمة للشيخ الأرنؤوط –نشأته ووصوله مع عائلته من إشكودرا إلى دمشق، وإنجازاته العلمية، وأيام جمعتها معاً على دروب العلم، ويضع ثبتاً بالكتب التي حققها الشيخ وتبلغ ستة وثلاثون كتاباً: نذكر منها: "زاد المعاد في هدي خير العباد" و"سير أعلام النبلاء"، "ورياض الصالحين...إلخ.
