ألهمت سيرةُ المصطفىجموعَ البشر على مر التاريخ، فما من عِلم دِينيٍّ أو دُنيويٍّ إلَّا وفي سيرة المصطفى قَبسٌ منه؛ قَلَّ أو كَثُر. فلا تجد عالم فقه إلا أخذ من سيرته سيلا من الأحكام، ولا تجد مفسرًا إلا استلهم من السيرة العطرة دقائق في التفسير، كما أنه ما من زعيم أو قائد أو حاكم إلا كانت له في سيرة المصطفى دروس وعبر، أما علماء النفس والاجتماع والأطباء وغيرهم فقد وجدوا في سيرته وأحاديثه نوادر المعارف العلمية، ولم لا وقد كان النبي وحيًا يمشي على الأرض.
فلِلهِ دَرُّ شوقي حين قال عن المصطفى:
خَطَطتَ لِلدِّينِ والدُّنيا عُلومَهُما
يا قارِئَ اللَّوحِ بلْ يا لامِسَ القَلَمِ
أَحطْتَ بينهما بالسِّرِّ وانْكشَفَتْ
لكَ الخزائنُ مِن عِلْمٍ ومِن حِكَمِ
وهذا هو كتاب: «خُلاصة سِير سَيِّد البشر» لمؤلِّفه العلَّامة محبِّ الدين الطَّبري، وهو أحد مختصرات السيرة النبوية، وقد جَعَل مؤلِّفُه عنوانَه دالًّا على مُحتواه ومنهجِه في تصنيفه، فقد جمَعه مِن اثني عشرَ مؤلَّفًا ما بين كبيرٍ وصغير، في صورة سهلة، مختصَرة غير مخلة، وجعله مشتمِلًا على أربعة وعشرين فصلًا في ذكر ما يتعلَّق بالنبيِّ ﷺ، بدءًا من النَّسَب الشريف، وانتهاء إلى وفاته.
