اذا كانت عبارة "أسلافنا الغال"، التي ما زال الفرنسيون يكررونها حتى الآن، قد انتقلت إلى مستعمرات فرنسا الأفريقية لربطها بتاريخ وهمي، فإن وجود مجموعة من الكلمات من أصول عربية في لغة موليير أكثر بكثير من تلك التي تعود إلى لغة بلاد الغال القديمة حقيقة واقعية. فكما يذكر المعجمي الفرنسي، جان بروفوست jean pruvost، في كتابه "أسلافنا العرب، لغتنا مدينة لهم" (صدر الشهر الماضي عن منشورات JC Lattès الباريسية)، فالصورة مختلفة بعض الشيء عن الرواية الوطنية للتاريخ التي تمكّن المؤرخ الفرنسي، إرنست لافيس، من فرضها كتاريخ رسمي لفرنسا، من خلال كتابه الصادر في بداية القرن العشرين "تاريخ فرنسا من بلاد الغال إلى الآن"، والذي كان مرجعاً رئيسياً في المدارس حتى ستينيات القرن الماضي. فلعدم اعتمادها على الكتابة، تعدّ الآثار المتبقية من اللغة الغالية قليلة جداً. وتتمثل في عدد قليل من النقوش التي تحمل عبارات وجيزة وقوائم قصيرة من الكلمات
