الهدف من هذا الكتاب هو تقديم رؤيتنا لآيات استخدمها البعض على مدار الخمسة عشر قرناً الماضية لتحويل العبادات إلى أشكال، او العالم إلى عدو، أو الشريعة إلى حدود وأحكام، واردنا أن نشارك في تقديم رؤية أخرى؛ ذلك أننا على اقتناع أن الإسلام دين رحمة ومحبة، طريق لتطهير القلب من الأدران، والعقل من التعصب.
ومن هنا حاول الكتاب أن يجيب عن تساؤلين محوريين مترابطين: كيف فسّر البعض آيات التنزيل تفسيرات لا تتمشى والرسالة السمحة، وكيف وجد هؤلاء من المسلمين من يقتنعون بهذا التفسير، فيسيرون وراءهم دون تفكير ودون تدبر ودون استفتاء للقلب؟
والأبواب الثلاثة للكتاب تعبر عن محاول للإجابة عن هذين السؤالين من خلال محاولة استشكاف البنية العقلية والمسلمات الأساسية التي دارت في اتجاهات حرفية وأخرى تجديدية، ونقيم مع هذه الاتجاهات حواراً، ثم نقدم بعد ذلك رؤيتنا مستخدمين الآيات نفسها التي تم تفسيرها في رؤية مختلفة، تبرز سماحة الإسلام ورحمته وأهميته بالنسبة إلى النمو الروحي للفرد، ونشر العدل في المجتمع، ونشر السلام والمحبة في العالم أجمع.
إن رؤيتنا تنطلق من رفض اي اتجاه يتحدث باسم الحقيقة المطلقة، أو ينسب إلى نفسه الفهم الأصح في المطلق. وفي هذا الإطار يمكن للإنسان أن يستخرج من النص القرآني وسنة الرسول مفاهيم ثرية متجددة بلا حدود.
