هذا المتن يعد من اللبنات الأولى للمبتدئين في علم العقيدة، وتذكرة لطيفة للمنتهين، فذكر فيه العلامة الدردير الأصول الكبيرة في علم التوحيد، ثم ختمه بخاتمة في علم التصوف وذكر أعلامه.
وهو مصنف ضمن الكتب المقررة في الأزهر الشريف، فتلقاه علماؤه بالقبول، ودرسوه تحت أعمدته مئات السنين، فهو كما قال الإمام الدردير: "لطيفة صغيرة في الحجم... لكنها كبيرة في العلم"... "تكفيك علماً إن ترد أن تكتفي... لأنها بزبدة الفن تفي".
هذا، وإن من أجلِّ وأهم ما كتب عليها من الحواشي النفيسة المباركة حاشية العلامة أحمد الصاوي تلميذ الإمام الدردير التي حوت الفوائد العظيمة والتحريرات الجليلة الدقيقة مع ذكر التعليل والدليل، فقد بيَّن فيها ما أجمل بالتفصيل والتحقيق، وفتح ببيانه ما أغلق، مع سهولة العبارة، وجمال السبك، وحسن الإشارة، ووضوح المعاني.
