هذا كتاب إملائي موسّع يتضمن قواعد الإملاء العربي جميعها بكل تفصيلاتها، والنصوص المتعلقة لها، مع ملحق خاص يشرح فيه طرائق تدريس الإملاء، مع ملحق ثانٍ أثبتت فيه بعض الدروس الإملائية المحضّرة تحضيراً نموذجياً بحيث يعتبر الكتاب مرجعاً في بابه. وما شجع المؤلف على وضع كتابه هذا ندرة الكتب الإملائية التي تعتبر مراجع موثوقاً بها لطالب العربية ومعلمها على حدّ سواء. فكتب الإملاء المدرسي، وهي كثيرة، لا تتضمن سوى ما يعتبره مؤلفوها مهماً لطلاب المدارس من قواعد الإملاء العربي كما ينقصها الكثير من الشروحات التي توضح القواعد الإملائية وتعلّلها، أما الكتب اللغوية التراثية التي تطرقت إلى القواعد الإملائية فقد كتبت بأسلوب قد يصعب على متعلمي العربية، كما تعوزها الأمثلة والنصوص الضرورية لفهم النصوص.
وقد قسم المؤلف كتابه هذا إلى أبواب ضمت كل باب منه عدة فصول تتعلق بموضوع واحد، كموضوع الهمزة، والألف، والتاء، والحذف، والزيادة... وبدأ كل فصل بالقواعد الإملائية المتعلقة به، ثم أثبت بعدها جملة نصوص تطبيقية على هذه القواعد، وذلك بهدف أن يوفر على معلم العربية، مشقة وضع مثل هذه النصوص، أو التفتيش عنها في كتب الإملاء والأدب المختلفة. هذا وقد اتبع بعض الفصول بملاحق نحوية اقتبسها من الكتب النحوية المختلفة، وهي تتضمن مسائل نحوية مرتبطة ارتباطاً وثيقاً بالفصول التي ألحقت بها، بحيث تعتبر قراءتها من قبل معلم العربية، خاصة، ضرورية لفهم القواعد الإملائية فهماً كافياً لتدريس الإملاء، والإجابة عن أسئلة الطلاّب المختلفة.
هذا الكتاب هو حلقة من سلسلة الخزانة اللغوية التي تصدرها دار الكتب العلمية. وهو معجم مفصل موسع يتضمن قواعد الإملاء العربي جميعها بكل تفصيلاتها، والنصوص المتعلقة بها، مع ملحق خاص شرح فيه المصنف طرائق تدريس الإملاء، وملحق أثبت فيه بعض الدروس الإملائية المحضرة تحضيرا نموذجيا، بحيث يعتبر الكتاب مرجعا في بابه.
