هل يرتبط علم النفس بالفن؟ بقدر ما يبدو هذا السؤال غائماً، فإنه يبدو وكأنه يحمل الإجابة معه، فعلم النفس يدرك السلوك الإنساني، فهل يعد الفن سلوكاً إنسانياً ليرتبط به العلم في ناحية من نواحيه؟...
هنا يصبح لزاماً علينا أن نحدد قبل كل شيء موقع الفن في الحياة الإنسانية، وعلى وفق حساب الفن بأنه حالات من الأفكار ومقادير من الرؤى وطرائق من التصوير وأنواع من المشاعر، يتحدد عملنا في النظرة إليه في إدخاله حيز السلوك أو عدم إدخاله، يبدو أننا ملزمون دائماً في دراسة أية ظاهرة بتحديد موقعها من السلوك لتصبح بعد ذلك خاضعة للفحص السلوكي.
فما يقع خارج هذا السلوك يصير غير معني بتناوله من منظور نفسي ويصبح علم النفس نوعاً من محاولات الإقحام والخلط الذي لا يقوم على أساس، هل هي دعوة من جانبنا إلى إخضاع علم النفس للتطبيق المختلف على الظاهرات أم هي دعوة لإخضاع الظاهرات في تطبيقها على النفس وحالاتها بمعيار نفسي؟...
إن نوعاً من التنافر سرعان ما يظهر لدينا عندما نحاول أن ندس علم النفس في مجالات لا تعنيه ولا يقدم فيها فائدة دراسية واضحة، على أن نوعاً من التآلف سرعان ما يظهر بالمقابل عندما تكون تلك المجالات مرتعباً خصباً للدراسة النفسية.
وربما تفيد الإشارة هنا إلى أن من بين أسباب تصور الكثيرين أن علم النفس علم جامد متعكر، إنه يهندس النفس ولا ينسحب بها على التطبيق الدقيق لمفرداتها السلوكية.
فلقد وقف كثير من الدارسين أمام علم النفس وقوف المستغرب، المتسائل عن مدى صلاحية هذا العلم للتطبيق الواسع في المجالات الحياتية، حين ظهر علم النفس فاحصاً للقدرات العقلية والقابلية الفردية والإستعدادات الشخصية والحالات الوجدانية، ظهر وكأنه علم هندسي مقنن يشير إلى واقع فردي معد سلفاً من دون قدرة واضحة فيه على إستغلال هذا الواقع إستغلالاً تنفيذياً في الحياة.
