يمكن القول إنّ الفلسفات الغربية الراهنة، ليست هي الفلسفات المعروفة للقارئ العربي، الذي يكتفي بقراءة النصوص المترجمة إلى اللغة العربية فحسب، بل توجد فلسفات وشخصيات وموضوعات ما تزال مجهولة عربياً، رغم جهود بعض المترجمين الذين دأبوا على نقل نصوص مهمة، فضلاً عن توفّر بعض الدراسات، التي تساهم في التعريف بمشكلات الفلسفة الراهنة، إلا إنّها محدودة العدد. ومن الفلسفات الغربية التي ينطبق عليها ما ذُكر آنفاً، الفلسفة الكندية، التي تميزت بموضوعات ارتبطت بها، موضوعات الهوية والتعدد الثقافي خاصّةً. إنّ البحث في فلسفة دولة ما لا يعني التخلي عن معالجة الموضوعات المرتبطة بالسؤال الفلسفي الكوني، مع تأكيد أنّ السؤال الفلسفي المحلي أصبح من أهم سمات فلسفات العصر الذي ننتمي إليه. وإذا عُدنا إلى التحقيب التاريخي للفلسفة يتبين أنّه ربط بداية التاريخ الفلسفي المنظم باسم دولة (الفلسفة اليونانية)، وقد تم التحقيب التاريخي على وفق العصر الذي تنتمي إليه، سواءٌ أكان الوسيط أم الحديث أم المعاصر، وتتخلل هذه التقسيمات الهوية الدينية كالفلسفة الوسيطة (المسيحية أو الاسلامية)، ومن ثم العودة مرة أخرى الى ربط هوية الفلسفة بالدولة التي أنتجتها، مثل: الفرنسية، الإنجليزية، والأمريكية. والفلسفة الكندية واحدة من هذه الفلسفات التي آثرت أن تُسمى بما يُميز هويتها الفكرية.
