عُنيت المدوّنة النحويّة، في الوقف، بالكيف لا بالأين، الذي تُرك لقوم عُنوا بالأداء القرآنيّ وضبط الأوقاف فيه إستناداً إلى المعنى، أو إلى الوظائف تنجم بدخول الكلمات في تركيب.
والعناية بالكيف أدعى أن تكون الإستراحة فيه محطّ عناية، إذ رُبط الوقف بضيق النّفَس أو إنقطاعه، وهذان يكفي الوقف أيّاً تكن صورته، ملاذاً للإستراحة منهما، غير أنّ النحويين مازوا في الوقف الذي نجم بوضع (فسيولوجيّ) صورةٌ من صور، فجعلوا الإسكان هو الأبلغ في تحصيل هذا الغرض حيث قُصد إلى أن تكون الكلمة أخفّ عند الوقف عليها.
وهذا التفضيل أثر من آثار (الأنطولوجيا) فالربط بين التخفيف والسكون في الخطاب النحويّ إجراء قام على نقل سمة جسميّة إلى اللغة، على نيّة أن الحركة عناء، والسكون تخفيف من هذا العناء.
فإذا كانت الغاية من الوقف بصوره كافّة هي الإستراحة من مخرجات (الفسيولوجيا)، فإنّ جعل الوقف بالإسكان هو الأبلغ في تحصيل غرض الإستراحة لأنّه تخفيف، كان أثراً للتناصّ مع (فيزياء الكلام) أو (الأنطولوجيا) كما نظر لها نظام البيان في الثقافة.
يبدو أن عناية المدوّنة بهذا الغرض؛ الإستراحة، وبالكيف: الوجوه، كان من حرص على أن يبقى النزوع معرفيّاً، فتبتعد عن أن تكون جزءاً من الصراع كان الرّهان فيه على المعنى يقع تحت براثن السلطة أو (الإيديولوجيا).
إن مقاربة الوقف في هذه المدوّنة النحويّة تصلح شاهداً لهذا النزوع، وذلك بلحاظ مقاربة أخرى مدارها الخطاب الكريم، إذ عُنيت بالمعنى، واتخذت من السنّة والرواية أداة في تثبيته، أو وصف الوقوف عليه بالتامّ، أو الحسن، أو القبيح، أو غير الجائز، وما امتدّ عن هذا من خلافات، هي الخلافات بين الفرق والملل والنحل: كلٌّ راهن على معنى استظلّ به في صراع أو تدافع بشريّ.
