إن الأقيسة على اختلاف أنواعها هي القطب الذي تدور عليه رحى المعاملة فيما بين الناس، وينضبط به أمر التبادل العام، وتتعين مقادير الحقوق الشرعية في الزكاة والصدقات وغيرها، وبدونها تفسد الأمور وتتعطل حركة المبادلة.
وعند قراءة التاريخ نرى أهمية الأقيسة والأوزان والمكاييل عند مختلف الأمم، وظلت متداولة ومتعاقبة حتى يومنا هذا حاملة كل الاهتمام والرعاية.
وبعد التقصّي والتأمل في أقوال كثير من ثقات العلماء الذين اشتغلوا في هذه المسائل اتضح لنا أن مرجح الأوزان والمكاييل وأنواع المقاييس عند سائر الأمم الماضية هو الأقيسة الطولية، على معنى أنها منسوبة إليها، فالأوزان منسوبة إلى القدم، وكانت تطلق في القديم على النقود، كما أن المكاييل منسوبة للذراع، ولكن لطول العهد تنوسي ذلك تدريجياً.
وقد كثر الكلام في الخطط التوفيقية على النقود الإسلامية ولم نسمع عن أصل مأخذ النقود والأوزان والمكاييل هل هو اتفاقي أو منسوب لوحدة الأطوال، كما هو الحال الآن عند الأمة الفرنسية، فإنها بعد أن قدّرت وحدة الأطوال، وهي المتر، نسبت له النقود والموازين والمكاييل. كما أنه إذا كان الأمر كذلك وثُبت أن مرجع الأوزان والمكاييل هو أقيسة الطول فإلى أي أمة يُنسب هذا الاختراع العجيب الذي كان ولا يزال حتى الآن أثره في كافة قاع الأرض. هذا ما يبحث فيه هذا الكتاب.
