إنَّ من أشـرف علـوم الدين، علـم الحديث النبـوي الشـريف، ومن أجل معارفـه وأوكدها تمييز أصحاب رسـول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ممن خلف بعدهم؛ فبمعرفتهم يتميز الحديث المرسل من الحديث المتصل، وذلك غير ممكن إلا بمعرفة ناقل الحديث صحابياً كان أم غير صحابي. ومن هنا جاءت فكـرة هذا البحث لتضـيف لبنـة جديدة في علم الحديـث الشريف، من خلال البحث والدراسة في المختلف فيهم من الصحابة رضي الله عنهم.
تكمن أهمية هذه الدراسة في النقاط الآتية:
ـ صلة هذا الموضوع بعلوم الحديث، فمعرفة الصحابة رضي الله عنهم أحد أنواع هذه العلوم، والرغبـة في إضافة الجديد من خلال هذه الدراسة بالوقوف على منهجية التمييز بين المختلف فيهم من الصحابة.
ـ الاختلاف في ثبوت صحبـة عدد كبير من الصحابة رضي الله عنهم، من حيث وجود الأقوال المتعارضة في ثبوت الصحبة أو نفيها عنهم، فقد جمع الحافظ علاء الدين مُغلطاي ت (762ﻫ) في كتابه ’الإنابة إلى معرفة المختلف فيهم من الصحابة‘، ألفاً ومئتي ترجمة للصحابة المختلف في صحبتهم، الأمر الذي يستلزم الدراسة.
ـ الآثار المترتبة على مسـألة الاختلاف في ثبوت الصحبة، فمنها ما يتصل بالراوي المختلف في صحبته من حيث الحكم بعدالته، وقبول روايته، ومنها ما يتصل بالرواية من حيث الوصل والإرسال، والتصحيح والتضعيف
