ينضوي هذا الكتاب تحت إهتمام الباحث الدائب بالمنهج العلمي في البحث، وخصّ درسته هنا بكتاب واحد، هو (المهدي المنتظر عند الشيعة الأثني عشرية) للراحل جواد علي.
واجترح في هذا الدرس ثمانية مرتكزات منهجية، كان جواد علي يفيء إليها في كتبه، ودراساته، وعمد بعدها إلى تطبيق تلك المرتكزات على كتابه هذا، وكانت تلك المرتكزات التي اجترحها الباحث سلاحاً ماضياً بيد جواد علي، وهو يعالج موضوعاً ذا حساسية عالية، جنبَه الكثير من المزالق، ونأى به عن السجال العقيم، والجدال غير المفضي إلى ثمرة نافعة، ولذلك قام بتفلية المصادر بلا إنتقاء؛ ومحاكمة المقولات بلا تحيز، وإختيار الرأي المتوازن من خلال عزل الأسطورة عن الحدث التاريخي، تاركاً الأولى لدراسي الأدب، ومختاراً الثاني فهو ألصق بعمله، وأكثر إقتراباً منه، وداعياً إلى الأخذ بفكرة (التقدم) التي أمن بها، وعمل لها، غير أن ما جاء بعده لم يحقق أحلامه في ترسيخ تلك الفكرة، ويكفي أنه وظف المنهج وسلطته، وبشّر بما سيأتي، وهو الذي لم يأت، وحسب هذا الكتاب أنّه اجترح، ووثّق مرحلة زاهرة من مراحل البحث التاريخي في العراق الحديث.
