وهو من الكتب العلمية المفيدة في موضوعها ومن أهم كتب التربية لأنه عالج مواضيع هامة في تربية النفوس وتهذيبها وأدبها، وكشف وأبان عن بعض أمراضها أو ما يسمّى بأمراض الروح والقلب، لذلك فهو حقاً من أهم كتب تربية النفوس وكتب الزهد التي تعالج الأمراض المستعصية الخارجة عن نطاق أمراض الجسد فكما يصاب الجسم بأمراض كثيرة تؤثر على الإنسان ويدركها أطباء الأبدان فهناك أمراض أخرى معنوية خارجة عن طب الأبدان يعرفها أطباء النفوس والقلوب منها ما يطرأ على القلب من الغشاوة، والران، والحقد، والحسد، والعجب، والكبر، والرياء.
ومنها ما يتعلق باللسان كالكذب، والغيبة، والنميمة، وقد عالج كتاب "تصفية القلوب..." هذه الأمراض الفاتكة بالروح والقلب معاً معالجة كافية شافية، إلى جانب عناية بتربية النفوس قبل وقوعها في تلك الأمراض وتزكيتها والسمو بها إلى أعلى المنازل فبين أمهات الفضائل والأخلاق كالزهد، والقناعة، والصبر، والصدق وقول الحق، والوفاء بالعهد.
