تحت عنوان "الجامع الصحيح للإمام البخاري" يقدم الأستاذ الدكتور محمد بن زين العابدين رستم في هذا الكتاب "دراسات" في البخاري وصحيحه ورواياته ومستخرجاته وشروحه في المشرق والمغرب" ومجموع هذه الدراسات عشرون ونيّف قدم لها الدكتور رستم (المؤلف) بمدخل عرّف فيه بالإمام البخاري وعمله الجامع الصحيح ونسخ وطبعاته، وأردفه ببحث سماه "الموازنة والترجيح بين رواة الجامع الصحيح". في القسم الأول تطرّق المؤلف إلى موضوعات شتى تشتمل على ما كتبه علماء المشرق حول الصحيح، بعضها في يالشروح، وبعضها في المستخرجات، وبعضها في التراجم، وبعضها في الحواشي، وبعضها في الإعتراضات، وكذلك في الحوالات.
وفي القسم الثاني أحاط بجهود علماء الغرب الإسلامي في خدمة الجامع الصحيح، وفيها شروح متنه، وعددها خمسة شروح. ومن هذه الجهود شرح إبن القزاز القيرواني لغريبه، وأجوبة إبن حزم الأندلسي على مواضع من البخاري، وكلام إبن رشيد السبتي في تراجمه، إلى تعليقات أبي علي الصدفي على نسخته المخطوطة من الجامع الصحيح. ثم يتابع البحث فيما يتعلق بالنقول يستخرجها من بطون المصنفات في شروح البخاري، ويرتبها على النحو الذي تتحقق به الفائدة العلمية. ومع تعدد موضوعات الكتاب فإن المؤلف ينهج في درسها نهجاً واحداً من أهم عناصره التمهيد لموضوع كل بحث، وعناية العلماء به، وتسمية البواعث على الدراسة، والترجمة لصاحب النص، وقد أجاد في بناء بعضها مثل ترجمة الداودي المسيلي أول شارح للبخاري في الغرب الإسلامي، ومثل ترجمته إبن القزاز القيرواني وأثر عمله في الشروح المشرقية للجامع الصحيح وغيرهم، يضاف إلى ذلك نصاعة اللغة وانسجام العبارات وإتلاف الألفاظ العربية الرصينة الدالة على ثقافة وسعة إطلاع المؤلف.
