هذا الكتاب هو عبارة عن بحث علمي أعد لنيل دكتور في الطب البشري في قسم الأمراض الجلدية بجامعة تشرين وبإشراف الدكتور حميد سليمان والدكتور عبد الحليم رومية والدكتور إياس حسن، أعده الطالب فراس يونس راعي ويقول في مقدمته: (... وقد حرصت على أن يكون شاملاً ومتكاملاً... كما قمت بوصف صوره وصفاً علمياً دقيقاً يمكن من فهم التفاصيل الدقيقة الموجودة فيها، وفيما يتعلق بالمصطلحات الطبية العربية المستعملة في هذا المصور فلقد أخذت بما جاء في المعجم الطبي الموحد في طبعته الثالثة الأخيرة إلا أن المعجم لم يأت على ذكر بعض المصطلحات الجلدية المعدودة التي صادفتني فثبتها حسبما تبين لي أنه الصواب بعد مراجعة الأساتذة المشرفين، كما حرصت على ذكر التسمية القديمة لبعض الأمراض للدلالة عليها وأرفقت المصطلحات العربية بما يقابلها من باللغة الإنكليزية...). والأطلس يحتوي على مئة وإحدى وستين صورة ملونة لمئة وإحدى وستين إصابة جلدية مع الوصف العلمي الدقيق للآفات المشاهدة في كل صورة، هذا إضافة لما يحتويه من مخططات تتناول تركيب الجلد والآفات المرضية الأولية والثانوية بالشرح.
