يتناول الكتاب العديد من القضايا، بما فيها العادات والتقاليد الخاصة بشعوب القوقاز مثل خطف العرائس، وأحداث تهجير بعض الشعوب، بمن فيهم تتار القرم والإنغوش والشيشانيون، من أرضهم الأصلية عام 1944 بتهمة التعاون مع الاحتلال النازي إبان الحرب العالمية الثانية. كما تسلط إحدى القصص الضوء على قضية تجنيد الشباب للانضمام إلى صفوف المسلحين في شمال القوقاز بعد تفكك الاتحاد السوفييتي. أضف إلى ذلك عدداً من القصص حول الطقوس الخاصة بشعوب القوقاز ومنطقة نهر الفولغا، واختلاط الخيال بالواقع في قصص أخرى.
