صدر عن المركز العربي للأبحاث ودراسة السياسات كتاب الهجرة وتشكل النخبة السياسية في لبنان، تناول فيه مؤلفاه بول طبر ووهيب معلوف ظاهرة تشكّل النخبة السياسية في لبنان في العلاقة بشكل رئيس بالاغتراب اللبناني العائد، من دون إغفال دور المغترب المقيم في الخارج، وإن بصورة غير تفصيلية.
من المعلوم أن أدبيات الهجرة في الآونة الأخيرة تجاوزت المنهجية القومية التي كانت سائدة في دراسة الهجرة وبدأت تعتمد بدلًا منها المنهجية العابرة للحدود القومية. وبناء عليه، بدأت الدراسات في إظهار دور المغترب في العديد من جوانب الحياة في بلده الأم في المجالات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية والسياسية.
غير أن هذه الدراسات نادرًا ما تطرقت بشكل منهجي إلى دور الاغتراب في صناعة النخبة السياسية في البلد الأم وفي إعادة إنتاجها، ولا سيما في بلد كلبنان حيث يقارب عدد المهاجرين ضعف عدد السكان المقيمين فيه.
