الإنسان خليقة الله، وصناعة هذا الإنسان وإعداده للحياة الطيبة هي وظيفة التربية، وتربية الإنسان مرتبطة بالنظرة إلى ماهيته وطبيعته، ومن أين؟ وفي أين؟ وإلى أين؟ حيث تتباين المدارس التربوية ببناء على هذه الرؤية الكونية التي تحكم أصول العملية التربوية واساليبها، فالعملية التربوية تحتاج إلى رؤية فلسفية، لذا نشأت "فلسفة التربية"، ومع تعدد الفلسفات التربوية، من مثالية، وطبيعية، وتجريبية، وبراجماتية، وغيرها، يُطرح السؤال: أي فلسفة تربية نريد؟ فكان أن سعى العديد من المفكرين الإسلاميين إلى بناء فلسفة تربية إسىلامية، وفي هذا السياق، كان الدكتور خسرو باقري – أستاذ فلسفة التربية في جامعة طهران – من جملة الذين بذلوا جهداً في سبيل تأصيل فلسفة التربية والتعليم الإسلامية، فأنتج كتابات عديدة في هذا الميدان، من ضمنها هذا الكتاب، الذي اعتمد فيه المؤلف منهجاً خاصاً، يقوم على الإستفادة أسلوبياً: من علم الفلسفة في البحث والبناء المعرفي، ومضمونياً: من النصوص الإسلامية – القرآن والحديث - ، حيث استخدم في هذا الكتاب أسلوب القياس العملي الذي طرحه أرسطو وعمل على تجديده ويليام فرانكنا، لكن مع إعادة هيكلة من قبل المؤلف.
