"كشاجم" هو محمود بن الحسين بن السندي ين شاهق أو ساهك أديب وشاعر معروف في عهد الرشيد العباسي، من أهل الرملة من فلسطين، أما الزركلي فقال إنه فارسي، وذهب إليان سركيس إلى أنه هندي الأصل، وزاد الزركلي فقال إنه فارسي، وذهب إلياس سركيس إلى أنه هندي الأصل، وزاد الزركلي أن أسلافه الأقربين كانوا في العراق. واختلف في عام وفاته حيث قال إليان سركيس إنه توفي سنة 350 هـ أو سنة 360هـ.... تنقل بين القدس، ودمشق، وحلب، وبغداد، ومصر واستقر أخيراً بحلب فكان من شعراء أبي الهيجاء، عبد الله الحمداني"، والدسيف الدولة الحمداني أمير حلب. وقال عنه ابن العماد الحنبلي "كشاجم أحد فحول الشعراء، كان من الشعراء المجيدين، والفضلاء المبرزين.. كان رئيساً في الكتابة، ومقدماً في الفصاحة والخطابة، وذهب الشابشتي إلى أن لكشاجم كتب كثيرة وتأليفات طريفة من أهمها: كتاب أدب النديم، كتاب الرسائل، المصائد والمطارد، خصائص الطرب، الطبيخ، وديوانه الذي بين أيدينا الذي جاء تحت عنوان "ديوان كشاجم" والذي جاء مرتباً على حسب حروف المعجم وقد بدأه شارحه الأستاذ "مجيد طراد" بترجمة للشاعر يليها شرح لديوانه يبدأ بقافية (الهمزة)... وصولاً إلى قافية (الياء) في تقديمه للكتاب بأنه "مليح الشعر" أو مشهور الشعر والأدب، وقد قال بعضهم متمثلاُ بشعره: يا بؤس من يمنى بدمع ساجم، يهمي على حجب الفؤاد الواجم/ لولا تعلله بكأس مدامةٍ، ورسائل الصابي وشعر كشاجم. أما ديوانه فقد جمعه أبو بكر محمد بن عبد الله الحمدوني، ورتبه على حروف المعجم، ثم ألحق به زيادات أخذها عن أبي الفرج تحشاجم بعدما أتم جمع الديوان...".
ومن شعر كشاجم في مديح رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نقرأ: بكاء وقل غناء البكاءٍ، على رزءٍ ذرية الأنبياء/ لئن ذل فيه عزيز الدموع، لقد عز فيه ذليل العزاء/ أعاذلتي إن برد التقى، كسانيه حبي لأهل الكساءٍ.
