انتظمت دراسات هذا الكتاب المتميز في ثلاثة أبواب؛ أولهما تناول "إشكالات التأصيل"، وهي الإشكالات التي عرض لها المؤلف وحللها على إمتداد أربعة فصول؛ انصب الفصل الأول على رصد نشأة النقد الأصولي من خلال دراسة منهجية في رسالتي مالك والليث بن سعد، بينما وقف الفصل الثاني على دلالة الإستقراء بين القطع والظن عند الأصوليين، في حين حاول الفصل الثالث مقاربة إشكالية التنخيل في الدرس الأصولي، أما الفصل الرابع فقد سعى إلى تحديد مفهوم العام ودلالته بين الشاطبي والأصوليين.
أما الباب الثاني فقد تمحور حول "إشكالات التنزيل" من خلال ثلاث قضايا رئيسية: أولها؛ نظرية حفظ الكليات من جانبي الوجود والعدم في ضوء الواقع المعاصر: دراسة مقاصدية، وثانيهما؛ القيم الإنسانية والمقاصد في ضوء التدافع الحضاري المعاصر، وثالثها؛ علاقة الأصول بالمقاصدِ في إشكالية الوصل والفصل.
في حين انصب الباب الثالث حول إشكالات التأويل، وذلك من خلال ثلاث موضوعات محورية؛ الأول حول الخطاب التأويلي المعاصر من خلال التطبيق على التأويل المقاصدي، والثاني حول إشكال التقصيد الكلي بين النص والفقه والواقع، والثالث حول البعد المقاصدي في مشروع المفكر طه عبد الرحمن.
