هذا شرح: (العقيدة الوسطية) التى كتبها شيخ الإسلام والمسلمين، علم الدين وتقى الدين: أبو العباس أحمد بن عبد السلام بن تيمية الحرانى، ثم الدمشقى، الإمام المعروف، المتوفى سنة ثمان وعشرين وسبعمائة، رحمه الله وأجزل له المثوبة.
كتب هذه العقيدة إلى أهل "واسط"، يبين لهم فيها اعتقاد الفرقة الناجية المنصورة، أهل السنة والجماعة من سلف هذه الأمة، ومن تبعهم على هذا الاعتقاد إلى وقته رحمه الله، وهذه الرسالة - على وجازتها واختصارها - قد اعتنى بها العلماء بعد شيخ الإسلام رحمه الله، لأنها قد اشتملت من أصول عقائد أهل السنة والجماعة على الخلاصة الوافية، فقد ذكر فيها رحمه الله أصول الاعتقاد: ذكر فيها شرح أركان الإيمان الستة، وذكر فيها ما يجب لله سبحانه وتعالى من صفات الكمال، وما يوصف الله عز وجل به، والأصل فى ذلك: مخالفة المبتدعين والضالين فى باب الأسماء والصفات، وذكر ما يتصل بذلك من الإيمان بالأمور الغيبية، والإيمان بالكتب، والرسل، وبالقدر خيره وشره، وبين فيها أن من أصول أهل السنة والجماعة: الأحكام المتعلقة بالإمامة العظمى، وكذلك: ما يجب لولاة الأمر من حق السمع والطاعة، مخالفة للخوارج وأشباههم ممن خالفوا أهل السنة والجماعة فى ذلك، وذكر أصول الأخلاق عند أهل السنة والجماعة.
