عملاً بقول رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم "أنزلوا الناس منازلهم وداروا الناس بعقولكم" يقدم الإمام أبي عبد الله محمد بن يوسف الشامي الصالحي الشافعي (توفي سنة 942ه) الروايات التي جاءت في فضائل الإمام أبي حنيفة النعمان في الكتب المعتبرة في كتاب سماه "عقود الجمان في مناقب الإمام الأعظم أبي حنيفة النعمان" يقول فيه: ذكرت في هذا الكتاب قطرات في بحار فضائل أبي حنيفة وحسن شمائله وأحواله ورتبته على مقدمة وأبواب وخاتمة تضمنت المقدمة ستة فصول، اشتملت الأبواب على ستىة وعشرون بيتاً في المقدمة ذكر المؤلف عبر فصولها الستة ما ذكره الإمام أبي حنيفة عن الأمر بالإتفاق والإتيلاف والنهي عن التفرق والإختلاف والنهي عن الغيبة والنهي عن ذكر مساوىء الأموات ... وغيرها. وفي الأبواب الستة والعشرون بدأ بنسب الإمام أبي حنيفة وتاريخ مولده وصفته رضي الله عنه وما ورد عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من التبشير به ثم ذكر ما ادركه من الصحابة وبعض العلماء الآخذين عنه، والأصول التي بنى عليها مذهبه مع ذكر بعض خصائصه التي اختص بها عن غيره من الأئمة رضي الله عنهم، وثناء العلماء عليه وعلى فقهه، وشدة اجتهاده في العبادة وقيامه الليل، وكرمه وجوده، وزهده وأمانته ووفور عقله وفراسته وذكائه وفطنته وأجوبيته عن السئلة المبهمة، مع بعض حكمه ومواعظه، وبيان كثرة حديثه وكونه من أعيان الحفاظ من المحدثين مع بيان المسانيد التي خرّجها له الحفاظ من حديثه والرد على من زعم قلة اعتنائه بالحديث، وما قيل عنه في الشعر أيضاً. أما الخاتمة فكانت في كلام بعض الأئمة في عصره عنه رضي الله عنه مع بيان ما نقله القادحون في هذا الإمام العظيم.
