لقد سار المؤلف في هذا الكتاب- على طريقة السلف في تصانيفهم ذاك الزمان, فساق الأحاديث النبوية, والآثار السلفية المثبتة للقضاء والقدر الإلهي من غير تعليق أو تبويب. على الرغم من أنه قد يشعر القارىء بسياقه للأحاديث والآثار أنها مرتبة وفق تسلسل موضوعي عام, إلا أنه لم يبوب قط. ثم إن الوراق أبا بكر, وهو راوي الكتاب- قد أضاف على أصل الكتاب أحاديث عن شيوخه, هي في جملتها استخراج ومتابعة لأحاديث الكتاب.
المصري: هو عبد الله بن وهب بن مسلم, القرشي, الفهري, المصري, مولى يزيد بن زمانه, ولد سنة(125). وطلب العلم وهو ابن سبع عشرة سنة, كما أخبر هو عن نفسه, شيوخه روى عن الإمام مالك بن أنس, والليث بن سعد, وغيرهم, أهم مؤلفاته: الأهوال, تفسير الموطأ, البيعة, المناسك, وغيرها.
