إذا كان كتاب "أخبار مصر" للأمير المختار عز الملك محمد بن عبيد الله بن أحمد المسبحي، المتوفى سنة 420هـ/1029م، يؤرخ للخمسين عاما الأولى لتاريخ الدولة الفاطمية في مصر، فإن كتاب "أخبار مصر" لتاج الدين محمد بن علي بن يوسف بن جَلب راغب المعروف بابن مُيّسَّر، المتوفى سنة 677هـ/1278م، يعد الكتاب الوحيد الذي يكمل "تاريخ المُسَبَّحيّ" رغم تأخر وفاه مؤلفه على سقوط الدولة الفاطمية في مصر بنحو مائة عام الأخيرة من تاريخ الدولة الفاطمية في مصر.
ويعد تاريخ ابن ميسر من أهم المصادر إلينا في دراسة تاريخ الفاطميين في مصر، وخاصة تاريخ الفاطميين المتأخرين، وترجع قيمة هذا الكتاب، التي جعلت منه مصدراً له أهمية خاصة في الدراسات الفاطمية، بالإضافة إلى أنه الكتاب الوحيد الذي يكمل تاريخ المسبحي، إلى أننا نستطيع بفضله أن نحدد بوضوح المصادر الأساسية التي استعان بها المؤرخون المصريون في عصر المماليك في كتابة تاريخ الفاطميين، وللأسف الشديد لم يصل إلينا تاريخ ابن ميسر بتمامه، لنعرف الصورة التي أرادها له مؤلفه، كما أن الجزء الثاني المحفوظ في المكتبة الأهلية بباريس ليس تاماً ايضاً، وإنما هو نسخ لمواد قيدها مؤرخ مصر الشهير تقي الدين أحمد بن علي المقريزي في سنة 814هـ من خلال قراءته لتاريخ ابن ميسر ليفيد منها في مؤلفاته.
