إن القرآن الكريم كتاب معجز، ومن إعجازه أنه يعطي بُعداً جديداً للفكر البشري في كلّ حين، ويكشف عن معانٍ جديدة تواكب كلَّ عصر؛ لأنه غير مقيَّد بالزمان والمكان، مما يعني أن تفسيره لن ينتهي أبداً.
وإنَّ عِلْمَ الإنسان في تقدُّم مستمرٍّ، وكلَّما زاد علمه انكشف له المزيد من أسرار القرآن الكريم؛ إذ إن العلم البشريَّ عمليَّة حركيَّة ديناميكيَّة، فكثير مما علمنا بالأمس أصبح قديماً اليوم؛ لذا باتت إعادة النظر في بعض آيات كتاب الله تعالى أمراً طبيعياً منطقيّاً، ومنها سورة الكهف، وذلك لعدَّة أسباب، ومنها: أنه وردت في هذه السورة كلمات كثيرة مثل "ورِق" في قصَّة أصحاب الكهف و"مجمع البحرين" في قصة موسى وصاحبه، و"مغرب الشمس" و"مطلعها" في قصة ذي القرنين، مما يخلق التساؤل حول معاني تلك الكلمات التي يجب إعادة النظر فيها في ضوء العلم الحديث.
وقد حاول المؤلف في كتابه هذا، الإجابة عن هذه الاسئلة كلها، بالإضافة إلى إستفاضته بالحديث عن المسيح الدَّجَّال وفتنته في ضوء العلم الحديث؛ لإقناع القارئ والمستشرق المتشكِّك بوجهة نظره التحليليَّة.
