مما لا شك فيه إن فكرة رئيسة دينية موجودة لدى جميع الديانات السماوية الثلاثة الكبرى، ولكن مما لا ريب فيه أيضاً إن لأهل كل دين من الأديان السماوية تصورهم الخاص بهم نحو النبوة وسماتها، والأنبياء وخصائصهم. من هنا كان من الضروري جداً بالنسبة لمؤلف هذا الكتاب د. سلامة حسين كاظم أن يبحث في "مفهوم النبوة في الأديان الثلاثة: اليهودية، والمسيحية، الإسلام" لأنها من أصعب مسائل الفلسفة الدينية، وعلى فهمها يتوقف ثبوت الأديان السماوية.
يتألف الكتاب من سبعة فصول تشتمل على مفهوم النبوة بشكل عام، وتعريف للنبي والرسول، مع بيان الفرق بينهما وتشريف سيدنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بالنبوة والرسالة معاً، بالإضافة إلى حديث عن "الوحي والمعجزة والصفات الضرورية للأنبياء" مع بيان منهج القرآن الكريم في إثبات الوحي والمعجزة ومناقشة المؤلف المنكرين لهما ودحض الحجج التي اعتمد عليها هؤلاء بأدلة من القرآن الكريم والسنّة النبوية المطهرة. إلى ذلك، يشرح المؤلف مفهوم النبوة عند المسيحيين مع بيان طبيعة السيد المسيح عندهم و "دحض قولهم بالتلثيث" مع بيان رأي الإسلام في حقيقة السيد المسيح. كذلك، يشرح المؤلف مفهوم المبنوة عند المسلمين عند الفرق الإسلامية "السنّة والشيعة" وغيرهما من الفرق الأخرى. ويأتي على ذكر منكري النبوات ويرد عليهم. وأما مسك الختام فجاء إثبات نبوة سيدنا محمد بن عبد الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بالأدلة الحسية والعقلية مع بيان البشارات التي وردت بحقه صلى الله عليه وسلم في الكتب السماوية: التوراة والإنجيل والزبور.
