هذا الكتاب عبارة عن قراءة ناقدة وهادئة لكتاب (مفهوم البدعة وأثره في اضطراب الفتاوى المعاصرة) للدكتور عبد الإله العرفج. والذي ذهب فيه الى أن البدع تنقسم الى أحكام التكليف الخمسة فمنها الواجب، والمستحب، ومنها الجائز، والمكروه، والمحرم، فقام المؤلف بتفنيد الشبهات التي استدل بها على إثبات هذا الأمر.
كما قام بمناقشة كل ما أورده من مقولات عن أهل العلم أراد من خلالها أن يصل الى مبتغاه من تقرير للبدع واستحسانها. ووجه المؤلف اختلاف العلماء المعاصرين في الحكم على بعض المحدثات، مبيناً أن هؤلاء العلماء اختلفوا في تنزيل وتطبيق بعض القواعد على بعض المسائل فإن تأصيلهم وتقعيدهم واحد، كما بين مقام الصحابة ومدى حجية أقوالهم ودفع شبهة الإحداث عنهم.
