لما كانت السنة المطهرة هي الأصل الثاني للتشريع الإسلامي، وهي الركن الثابت لبيان أحكام القرآن، كانت الوسائل الضابطة لهذا الركن تتمتع بنفس المكانة والأهمية، ويدخل في ذلك علوم الحديث، ويخص بالذكر علم مصطلح الحديث، الذي يعتبر من أهم قواعد المعرفية الحديثية، نظراً لأنه يمثل أساس تلك الضوابط والقواعد التي بيّنها علماء الحديث، فوضعوا لها الأدلة والمقاييس العلمية الدقيقة، ولم يتركوا شاردة ولا واردة إلا أمعنوا فيها النظر بالبحث والتأصيل انطلاقاً من أسس الإسناد والمتن، وأحوال الرجال، وغيرها من مباحث هذا الفن الدقيق، وكان هدفهم الأسمى في ذلك بيان الحديث الصحيح، وتمييزه عن الضعيف والمردود والباطل الموضوع، ولقد أفنوا أعمارهم في التنقل والترحال شرقاً وغرباً، وشمالاً وجنوباً، لسماع الحديث ومعرفة رواته وأحوالهم، عدالة وضبطاً، فكانت ثمار تلك الجهود يانعة ومبكرة، فأعطت لنا الكثير من الدقائق العلمية والمعارف، التي امتلأت بها كتب الحديث ومخطوطاته في بقاع العالم الإسلامي.
ويأتي هذا المؤلف الجديد زبادة في الخير، وإيضاحاً وتبياناً لكنوز علم مصطلح الحديث، وهذا من خلال شرح كتاب "المنهل الروي" للإمام الحافظ إبن جماعة، وهذا نظراً لما يحتويه هذا الكتاب من فوائد علمية كثيرة، حتى يستفيد منها الباحث وطالب العلم على السواء. فكان عنوان الكتاب "القول السوي في شرح المنهل الروي". انطلاقاً من ترجيح الأقوال في المسألة المختلف فيها بين أهل الحديث والحفّاظ، بالدليل والتمثيل، وكذلك في ضبط المصطلحات، وتصحيح الأخطاء لغة واصطلاحاً، وهو بداية لجمع ما تناثر من مسائل هذا الفن الجليل، وتخليصه من الشوائب والأقوال الدخيلة عليه.
