"إتحاف فضلاء البشر بالقراءات الأربعة عشر" أو منتهى الأماني والمسرات في علوم القراءات" كما أطلق عليه المؤلف هو من المصنفات الهامة في علم القراءات، حيث جمع مصنفه لعلوم القراءات كلها في هذا الكتاب. وتحدث في أول كتابه على الأمور التالية أولاً عرّف القراءات، وذكر أقسامها المختلفة، ثم عرف علماء القراءات الأربعة عشر، ورواتهم وطرقهم، وسبب نسبة القراءات إلى هؤلاء الأئمة بالذات، ثانياً: عقد فصلا خاصاً للحديث عن الرسم العثماني وضوابطه، ومواضع الحذف والزيادة، والوصل والفصل، ثالثاً: عقد فصلاً مستقلاً تحدث فيه عن آداب القرآن الكريم، وكيفية تلاوته، وما ينبغي على قارئ القرآن والقراءات، وكيفية جمع القراءات، ومسلك السلف الصالح في ذلك. ثم أعقب ذلك كله ببيان أصول القراءات، وتوجيهها من حيث اللغة العربية.
وتعتبر طريقة المؤلف في كتابه هذا فريدة من نوعها، وهي الطريقة المعروفة بالفرش،حيث أنه عندما يبدأ في الحديث عن سورة من سورة القرآن الكريم، يبدأ أولا بذكر اسم السورة، وهل هي مكية أم مدنية، وإذا كان هناك خلاف نقله معزواً إلى صاحبه، وهذا يدل على مدى الأمانة العلمية في النقل.
ومن أهم مميزات هذا الكتاب، إنه بعد أن يذكر القراءات التي وردت في كلمة ما، سواء كانت عشرية، أو من القراءات الزائدة عن العشر- يتبع ذلك بتوجيه هذه القراءات من حيث اللغة والأعراب، ومن مميزاته أيضاً انه يتعرض لبعض الأحكام الفقهية التي تمس جانب القراءة، سواء في الصلاة، أو خارجها.
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب جاء محققاً وتجلى عمل المحقق بتصحيح النص ومقابلة النسخ المطبوعة على المخطوطة، تخريج "شواهد الكتاب التعريف بالإعلام والكتب التي تردد في الكتاب بالقدر الذي يتفق وأسلوب التحقيق، ضبط الكلمات الغريبة لغوياً: والإشارة إلى معانيها، وضع العناوين لبعض المسائل المهمة في أول الكتاب... يعد هذا الكتاب من أهم الموسوعات التي الفت في علم القراءات وهو كتاب لا يستغني عنه أي مسلم، فضلاً عن المتخصصين في هذا الفن وعلى الأخص طلاب معاهد القراءات.
