اسمه ونشأته
هو الإمام جلال الدين أبو عبد الله محمد بن شهاب الدين أحمد بن كمال الدين محمد بن إبراهيم بن أحمد بن هاشم العباسي الأنصاري المحلّي الأصل - نسبة للمحلة الكبرى من الغربية - القاهري الشافعي. ولد في مستهل شوال سنة إحدى وتسعين وسبعمائة 791 هـ الموافق سنة 1389 م بالقاهرة ونشأ بها فقرأ القرآن وحفظ المتون واشتغل في فنون العلم.

إن تحقيق التراث العلمي عمل عظيم، ومنافعه كثيرة منها: ربط خلف الأمة بسلفها، وتقوية الأمة بمختلف العلوم والمعارف، فمن الضروري إحياء تراثنا العلمي، ونفض غبار النسيان عنه، ونشر ما كان حبيساً في المكتبات العامة والخاصة، وتيسير أمره للناس، وفاءً بالمؤلّف الذي قدم لنا هذا الجهد العلمي، فلا نضيعه، بل نحييه وننشره رجاء أن يحشرنا الله تعالى في زمرتهم يوم القيامة.
ومن الواجب هنا الإلتفات إلى أهمية أصول الفقه: إن أصول الفقه هو القانون الذي يضعه المُجتهِد نُصْبَ عينَيه ليبني عليه صرح مذهبه حتى يعتصم من الخطأ والزلل في الإستنباط، ولذلك هو ضروري أيضاً لغير المُجتهِد أيضاً ليعلم الأصول التي وضعها أمامُه في بناء مذهبه وإستخراج الفروع الفقهية حتى يمشي عليها إذا طرأ أمر حادث ليس لسلفنا الصالح فيه كلام.
وكتب الأصول كثيرة، ولكن شرح جلال الدين المحلي الشافعي على جَمْع الجوامع لتاج الدين السبكي الشافعي كتاب نفيس في غاية الدقة والتحقيق والتحرير، فلذا انكبّ العلماء والطلاب على دراسته شرحاً وتعليقاً وتحشياً، وكثرت عليه الحواشي والتعليقات، فأحببتُ أن أتبركَ بخدمة هذا السِفر القيم، والله تعالى أسأل أن ينفع به المسلمين، ويجعله لي زخراً يوم القيامة.
