لا شك أن واقع كثير من المسلمين في هذا الزمان، في ظل أنماط الحكم الجاهلية وسيادة الجُهَّال وأرباب البدعة والضلالة، لم يسبق له مثيل في تاريخ الإسلام الطويل، اللهم إلا في فترات متقطعة قليلة، وفي أمكنة محدودة كذلك.
فقد عمّ الجهل بالدين الصحيح، والإنحراف عن تعاليمه، حتى أصبح ظاهرة تحتاج إلى بيان حكم الله تعالى فيها، بل أصبحت مثار جدال بين بعض المنتسبين للدعوة، أدَّى في كثير من الأحيان إلى التقاذف والتراشق بالتُّهم الخطيرة، كالتبديع ومداهنة المشركين، أو التكفير والتضليل.
وهذه الظاهرة - بطرفيها - تحتاج إلى دراسة شرعية متخصصة، بعيدة عن التأثر بغير النصوص الشرعية وروحها ومقاصدها وفق منهج علمي يجمع فيه بين الإستدلال بالنصوص والنظر الدقيق في الواقع.
ومن هنا، تبرز أهمية هذا الموضوع، بحيث يكون موضوعاً علمياً ودعوياً في آنٍ واحدٍ، فيجتمع فيه بيان أصول الإيمان وحقيقة الإسلام، وأنَّه تصديق وإلتزام وليس إنتساباً فقط، كما يبين فيه يُسر الإسلام وسماحته في إعتبار العوارض على التكليف، التي تكون سبباً في التخفيف والتيسير على المكلَّفين.
