"مختصر الخلافيات" كتاب عظيم جليل لواحد من أئمة العلم والهدى "للإمام البيهقي" جمع الإمام فيه بين الفقه والحديث، المسائل الفقهية والأحاديث النبوية. وتكمن أهمية الكتاب إذ أنه يحتوي على أسانيد نادرة لكثير من الأحاديث، وأنه مصدر هام في نسبة الأقوال إلى مذهب الشافعية وكذا إلى مذهب أبي حنيفة، وأن المصنف قد اعتنى بالآثار وسردها بالأسانيد مما يجعل من الكتاب مرجعاً هاماً بالنسبة لطلاب العلم والباحثين.
وللكتاب قيمة علمية تجلت في الترجيح بين المسائل الفقهية، وحكم البيهقي على بعض الرواة بما لم يسبق غليه، وجمع الأدلة على المسائل الفقهية بالأسانيد، وتقص طرق كل حديث مما يعين الطالب والدارس، وفي نقل كثير من أقوال العلماء في الأحاديث والرواة، أما المنهج الذي اعتمده البيهقي في الخلافيات فقد تجلى بذكر رأس المسألة المختلف فيها وفيها رأي الشافعية ثم يعقبه برأي الحنفية، عرض لأدلة الشافعية، ويتبعها بعرض لأدلة الأحناف ثم يناقش الأدلة سنداً ومتناً، مناقشة أدلة الحنفية مناقشة علمية بذكر أقوال العلماء في الحديث والتوراة، عرضه للروايات المتعددة لحديث الواحد، ومناقشة هذه الروايات، جمع في كتابه هذا بين الفقه والحديث، ميل البيهقي وانتصاره لمذهب الشافعي يظهر واضحاً في كتابه، رتب كتابه على ترتيب كتب الفقه، فبدأ بكتاب الطهارة وختمه بكتاب العتق.
