تعرّض المُنجزُ السردي العربي القديم إجمالاً لممارسات نقدية فحولية تُعْلي من شأن كل ما هو شعري وتبخس ما سواه، وتعتمد المتنَ الشعري بنيةً إبداعيةً مرجعيةً، تُقاس في ضوء معاييره وهياكله المصنوعة قيمةُ النصوص، وتستهدي في أحكامها بمبادئ النظامية المَسْكونة بهاجس الثبات، غير أن تطورًا لاحقًا أصاب المواضعة النقدية العربية، وحفزها إلى تفكيك مُخايلات الاستعلاء هذه، وما ارتبط بها من قيم التمركز والتسلط والعداء، والمُنافحة عن قيم الحرية والتشارك والعدالة. يؤمن هذا العمل أنّ العربي القديم قد أبدع أشكالاً قصصية ذات نكهةٍ مُميّزة، ومستويات متعددة، يتواشج فيها الفني بالتاريخي والثقافي، وقد بلغ النضج حد تكريس نصوص للعناية بنموذج إنساني تدور في فلكه العوالم التخيلية كأخبار الطُفيليين التي يراها العمل جديرة بأن تُعاد مساءلتها نقديًا عبر أدواتٍ إجرائية فاعلة، تحاور هذه النصوص، وتشرع منافذ التأويل لها على إمكانات لا محدودة، ولا ترهن نجاعة التحليل النقدي وعلميته بتوصيف شعرية النصوص فحسب، وإنما بإعادة الاعتبار إلى العلاقات التي يقيمها النص مع سياقاته المادية، بما يراعي تعدد الأنظمة المؤسسة له، وهي خطوة بالغة الأهمية لاستثارة وعينا بمكوناتنا الثقافية دون تعالٍ زائف أو خنوع مُقيِّد.
