لما كان (الصوم) في شهر رمضان فريضة على كل مسلم ومسلمة، كان لا بد من معرفة قواعده وسلوكياته حتى يتم الأجر والثواب الذي ينتظره المسلم من الله (عز وجل). ولتحقيق ذلك الغرض سيجد القارئ في هذا الكتاب ما للصوم من المنزلة والمكانة في الإسلام، وما لمن صام ابتغاء وجه الله من الأجر والفضل والإكرام، وأن ذلك يختلف زيادة أو نقصاً بنسبة قربه أو بعده عن سنة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، وهو ما أشار إليه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بقوله: "رب صائم ليس له من صيامه إلا الجوع والعطش".
لذلك، لا بد من معرفة صفة صوم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، وما فيه من واجبات وآداب وأدعية ثم تطبيق ذلك تطبيقاً عملياً.
ونظراً لتعذر معرفة هذه الصفة لدى غالبية المسلمين جاء هذا الكتاب ليجمع بين ثناياه جميع ما يتعلق بصفة صوم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في رمضان. وخاصة (صوم الفريضة) وقد استوحى المؤلفان ترتيب الكتاب وتبوبيبه من المراحل التي مرت بها فريضة الصوم، ثم من الواقع العملي للصوم. فبدأ بـ "فضائل الصيام" وفضل شهر رمضان شيء من رمضان متعمداً مروراً بـ "أحكام الصيام، ووقت الصيام والسحور وما يباح للصائم فعله، وصولاً إلى "الإفطار ومفسدات الصوم والقضاء" والكفارة والفدية ثم ليلة القدر والإعتكاف وصلاة التراويح وزكاة الفطر، ويختتم الكتاب منبهاً أحاديث ضعيفة تنتشر في رمضان...
