Book Description
صاحب هذا الكتاب هو أبو جعفر محمد بن حبيب. إلى حبيب ينتهي نسبه. كان نشأته مغمورة، إلا أنها لم تطغ عليه فتجعله في عداد المغمورين، بل هو تهيأ لغيرها من نشأة طيبة معها التحصيل علماً وأدباً ولغة، إذ أن تنشئته منذ الصغر لم تهمل، فسرعان ما دفع به إلى الكتاب صغيراً، فتعلم إلى أن أصبح معلماً. إلا أنه لم يكن راضياً على صنعته تلك، فصار يتردد إلى حلقات العلماء فيأخذ عنهم ليشكل حياته. وقد إختلف الذين أرضوا لإبن حبيب في مكانته العلمية، فاثنى علي نفر، ونال منه آخرون. يقول إبن النسيم، وهو من أثنوا عليه، وكان من علماء بغداد بالأنساب والأخبار واللغة والشعر، ويقول البغدادي: وكان عالماً بالنسب وأخبار العرب موثقاً في روايته. من هنا تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب الذي سبق أن طبع طبعة أولى سنة 1850 م بمدينة جوتنجن، وقام بنشره المستشرق المعروف وستنفلد. وقد رجع إلى مخطوطات أشار إليها في حواشي الكتاب. ومن أجل توثيق هذا الكتاب تم الإعتناء به حيث عمد المحقق إلى الرجوع إلى المظان المختلفة، موثقاً أو معدلاً أو مضيفاً رأيا|ًإلى رأي وبهذا ضمن لهذه الطبعة أن تكون أقرب ما يطمح إلبه من سحة وسلامة. بالإضافة إلى ذلك قام المحقق بإضافة عناوين فرعية للكتاب تسهيلاً لعمل القارئ كما عمل على ترتيب مادته ضمن مواضيع كلا تحت عنوان فرعي من غير إخلال بمادة الكتاب. وكتاب إبن حبيب هذا إما هو قطعة من كتابه " القبائل الكبير والأيام " الذي يقع في أربعين جزءاً، كل جزء منها في مائتي ورقة. وقد قام المحقق بالتعريف به عند سرده لمؤلفات إبن حبيب.
